5 Nations BRX record breaking supercar entry for Lydden Hill World Rallycross event

During July this year Lydden Hill presented the UKs round of the FIA World Rallycross Championship, where we had a record breaking Supercar entry in the Motorsport UK British Rallycross Championship 5 Nations Trophy. The biggest Supercar entry for 5 Nations BRX consisted of 18 competitors including new to the series drivers, former champions, regular victory contenders and international names.

Leading up to the World Rallycross event we had Tristan Ovenden leading the 2023 5 Nations BRX standings following an impressive run through the first four rounds. Six-time champion Julian Godfrey sat in second despite rolling his Citroen DS3 in round four at Mondello Park, while reigning title-winner Patrick O’Donovan heads to World Rallycross on the back of a maiden European Rallycross Championship victory in Sweden and double wins in the opening 5 Nations BRX weekend. Former champion Ollie O’Donovan also appeared on the podium earlier in the year, along with Jack Thorne and electric Mini RX racer Jake Harris who both had podium finishes at Lydden Hill and Mondello Park during this years season.

British Olympic legend Sir Chris Hoy returned to the seat in a 5 Nations BRX Supercar for the event along with former event winner Oliver Bennett who returned with his popular BMW Mini.

From Ireland we had Shane Murphy and Michael Leonard who raced against 5 Nations BRX drivers on home ground at Mondello Park earlier in the year and were determined to do more of the same at Lydden Hill this summer. German team mates Rene Munnich and Mandie August were among the favourites during the weekend, alongside Steve Hill, Dom Flitney and Michael Boak who aimed to get their campaigns back on track after difficult opening rounds. Roger Thomas, Mike Seller and Colin Anson were also to watch out for over the weekend.

The weekend consisted of 5 Nations BRX competitors racing in a single round over Saturday and Sunday whilst joining the World RX and RX2e series, and the Rallycross Celebration on- track demonstrations for period machinery.
